Science Museum of Western Virginia: ‘Hisses and Kisses’ fundraiser is something you haven’t seen before

ROANOKE, Virginia – The Science Museum of Western Virginia did something creepy for Valentine’s Day that might make you want to crawl out of your skin.

For $6, you could give a cockroach the name of your ex or someone you don’t like. But for $100, you could also get a pair of parakeets and name them after you and your partner.

It’s part of a fundraiser for the museum called “Hisses and Kisses.”

The marketing director at the museum said that this year’s fundraiser has done the best.

Shannon Allen said, “When we think back on the last few years of doing this fundraiser, it’s just a fun way to make money.” “Everyone knows that therapy can sometimes be very expensive, and buying a hissing cockroach for $6 is definitely cheaper than therapy.”

More than $600 was raised at this year’s fundraiser.

All of that money helps the museum take care of the animals.
