Real Performance Machinery gave five Grayson County High School students an opportunity to work in the company

INDEPENDENCE, Virginia – Five Grayson County High School seniors are getting ready to get jobs.

Ryan Perry, a senior at Grayson County High School and an intern with Real Performance Machinery, said, “I think people shouldn’t be afraid to try something new because this is new for Grayson County.”

On Feb. 10, the school held a signing day ceremony for the five students who will be working at Real Performance Machinery. Four of the students will work as interns, and one will work as an apprentice.

“This is the perfect job for you if you like getting your hands dirty and working with your hands, and you know how a lot of machines work,” RPM Apprentice Devon Moles said.

This is the first year that the school and RPM have worked together, but the goal is to keep this pipeline going so that Grayson County students can stay in their home area.

Jake Leonard from RPM said, “The relationship is important because our kids need a place where they can see what they want to do and have a vision of it.” “Right here in Grayson County, they can see it.”

Zach Hill, a counselor at GCHS, said, “It’s great for these kids to get a job so they can stay in the county, support their families with the money from that job, and just build Grayson County from there.”

Every day, the four interns will go to school in the morning and then go to the factory around lunchtime.

The experience is supposed to lead to full-time jobs.

“I think it’s good to show the community that we’re growing and expanding, and that they’re willing to come help the students get jobs and get ready for the real world,” Perry said.

“We want as many interested Grayson County High School students with trade skills to come to us, and we’d like to take everyone we can get right now,” Leonard said.
