The Covid-19 numbers in Charlottesville are stable, following Virginia’s statewide trend of cases

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Virginia – At the UVA Medical Center, there are 33 people in acute care who have COVID-19. This is a moderate number.

As of Friday, January 13, there are 5 people in the ICU, 1 in pediatrics, and 1 in the Women’s Center.

Doctor Costi Sifri says that a new type of COVID-19, called XBB1.5, is also showing up in the United States, and it could make its way to Charlottesville.

“It seems likely that XBB1.5 first appeared here in the United States,” Dr. Sifri said. “It’s hard to say for sure where it started, but the places with the most cases around the world are likely where it began.”

He says it’s something to think about before going somewhere or getting together.
