The community won: Danville will soon have its first ever splash pad on Third Avenue for the community to enjoy

DANVILLE, Virginia – The people of Danville will soon be able to use the city’s first splash pad.

As a result of what people said, work on the new splash pad on Third Avenue began last month.

Bill Sgrinia, who is in charge of Danville’s parks and recreation, said, “Over the years, we’ve heard that people want some kind of water feature in their parks.” “Our City Council was very helpful and involved in figuring out where they went. So, it was a real effort on the part of the community and our City Council.”

The park will have water features for all ages, a playground, and a place to have a picnic.

“It’s a real investment in the neighborhood. It makes the area around it a better place to live. It makes it easier for kids and adults to walk, and it lets us build on this piece of land,” said Sgrinia.

The water features will turn on when someone walks near them and turn off when no one is there.

“Every drop of water is cleaned before it goes back into the splash pad. The structure doesn’t run all day long without stopping. It only works when there are people here. So, it cuts down on the amount of water and electricity used, and it doesn’t waste as much,” Sgrinia said.

From June to September, the splash pad will be open during the day.

Patsy Hazelwood, who lives on Third Avenue, said, “I’m looking forward to it, and I think the neighborhood is too, because I think it will help the neighborhood.” “My nine-year-old grandson is looking forward to it very much. So, I expect to see him a lot more than usual.”

People say that the building will be done in three months. Just in time for summer, the splash pad will be open.
