Homelessness issue discussed at community meeting in Roanoke City

ROANOKE, Va. – The City of Roanoke and other community partners are working to identify potential solutions to the persistent issue of homelessness in the area.

On Tuesday morning, service providers from around the Valley got together to discuss the findings of a community survey on the topic of homelessness.

The need for additional affordable housing and support services was brought up during discussions between community partners.

According to the administrator of community resources for Roanoke City, the most significant obstacle to addressing the homelessness issue is financial.

“There’s a lot of interest in this Valley to address this problem,” Keith Holland said. “There’s a lot of human resources, but we just need funding and we need a coordinated effort.”
