Search for a missing individual in the James River continues

According to Bedford County Special Operations Command, search and rescue crews have been sent to the James River following the discovery of an unmanned boat in the waterway. The search is ongoing, and they are hoping to locate a person who has gone missing.

According to a statement made on Facebook by the Big Island Volunteer Fire Company, crews were made aware of a missing individual near the Balcony Falls region of the James River at around 12:17 p.m. on Saturday.

Glasgow Fire and Big Island Fire reportedly helped in the search, according to the Bedford County SOC.

Officials said the incident has been turned over to the Virginia Conservation Police for further investigation.

The Bedford SOC advises anyone who does not have a lot of experience to keep out of the water since the water levels are high and the current is moving extremely fast. Additionally, crews are advising members of the public to always use any kind of personal flotation device whenever they are on water.
