Until Friday, several Virginia based organizations will collect items to help the people of Turkey and Syria

After Monday’s devastating 7.5 magnitude earthquake, groups in our area are helping people in Turkey and Syria who are in need.

If you want to help, here are a few things you can do.

World Help: This Christian charity group based in Forest is helping people by giving them tents, blankets, food, and other things they need. The group is asking people to help by giving money. Here, you can give $35 to buy a week’s worth of emergency supplies for one person.

The Turkish Student Association at Virginia Tech: The group is gathering money and things to give to the Turkish Embassy in Washington, D.C. The American Turkish Association of Washington, D.C. can get donations here.

People who want to donate things are asked to separate and sort them, put them in clear bags, and write on the bags what they are. Donations will be accepted at the following places during normal work hours from Tuesday, February 7 through Saturday, February 10:

  • Squires Asian Cultural Engagement Center (ACEC)
  • Graduate Life Center
  • Fralin Life Center
