Truck collided with a Rustburg structure, causing an oil leak

RUSTBURG, Va. – Late Saturday night, a pickup truck crashed into a house near the intersection of Village Hwy and Depot Rd. This caused two walls to fall down and the roof to become unstable.

According to the Rustburg Volunteer Fire Department, the response time was 11:18 p.m. and marked the location where the driver lost control while driving over train lines on Depot Road, leading them into the building.

Both occupants of the vehicle were able to escape before the arrival of rescue personnel. They did not need hospitalization after being evaluated by EMS.

The vehicle knocked a 250-gallon heating oil tank off its pedestal, causing a minor leak. The Concord VFD was requested to send a hazmat trailer in order to transfer the petroleum into 55-gallon drums.

The Lynchburg Fire Department assisted in stabilizing the structure. AEP safeguarded the structure’s electrical components.

All units cleared at around 3:00 a.m. Saturday morning.
