Governor Youngkin supports new cell phone-free guidance for Virginia K-12 schools

Richmond, Virginia – Governor Glenn Youngkin expressed his support for the Virginia Department of Education’s final guidance on implementing a Cell Phone-Free Education policy in K-12 schools across the state. The policy aims to create a healthier and more focused learning environment for students by reducing distractions caused by cell phone use.

“This guidance from the Virginia Department of Education is an important step towards creating a healthier learning environment where students can receive a quality education free from harmful distractions,” said Governor Youngkin. He emphasized the importance of collaboration, adding, “I appreciate the substantive engagement from parents, teachers, administrators and our students. We will continue to engage in these discussions with parents and students on how Virginia can continue to improve these policies and keep the Commonwealth’s education system best-in-class.”

The guidance is part of a broader effort to ensure that schools in Virginia remain focused on providing a safer and more effective educational experience for all students. Additional resources on this policy can be accessed through the Virginia Department of Education.
