Bank robbery suspect arrested following high-risk traffic stop in Roanoke
Roanoke, Virginia – On Friday morning, the Roanoke Police Department apprehended and subsequently charged a man believed to be involved in a bank robbery incident that took place in Roanoke.
According to the police report, the Roanoke Police Department received a call at approximately 10:45 a.m., alerting them of a potential robbery at a bank located on the 3400 block of Orange Avenue NE.
The report further detailed that a man had entered the bank premises, brandished a firearm at a bank employee, and demanded cash. Authorities were informed that the suspect made a successful escape from the bank in a vehicle, taking an unknown sum of money with him.
In response to the emergency call, law enforcement officers arrived at the crime scene. They were provided with a description of the vehicle used by the suspect and his direction of travel. Police spotted a vehicle fitting the description in the vicinity of the bank and proceeded to execute a high-risk traffic stop.
Police records indicate that the driver adhered to the instructions during the stop and was subsequently arrested without further escalation of the situation. Upon searching the vehicle, the police found both money and a firearm.
Further investigation led to the identification of the suspect as Gary Koran, a 65-year-old resident of Roanoke. The police charged him with robbery in relation to the incident.
The Roanoke Police Department released a statement indicating that their investigation into the matter is ongoing and that additional charges against Koran may be forthcoming.
