RICHMOND, Va. — On Sunday morning, the Virginia Department of Health (VDH) announced that the Commonwealth’s total coronavirus count has increased to 529,125 COVID-19 cases and 6,778 virus-related deaths, including 2,949 new confirmed and probable cases and five new confirmed and probable fatalities.
Virginia health officials confirmed 421,466 cases and 5,840 deaths are related to the virus as of Sunday, Feb. 7. However, 107,659 cases and 938 deaths are still reported as “probable.”
According to VDH’s Sunday count, more than 79,000 cases have been reported from the following localities in southwest and central Virginia:
- Alleghany County: 1,162 cases, 54 hospitalizations, and 31 deaths
- Amherst County: 2,479 cases, 63 hospitalizations, and 12 deaths
- Appomattox County: 1,294 cases, 44 hospitalizations, and 9 deaths
- Bath County: 245 cases, 6 hospitalizations, and 8 deaths
- Bedford County: 5,415 cases, 131 hospitalizations, and 41 deaths
- Bland County: 608 cases, 19 hospitalizations, and 9 deaths
- Botetourt County: 1,944 cases, 48 hospitalizations, and 22 deaths
- Buena Vista: 785 cases, 18 hospitalizations, and 12 deaths
- Campbell County: 3,665 cases, 67 hospitalizations, and 32 deaths
- Carroll County: 2,021 cases, 143 hospitalizations, and 58 deaths
- Charlotte County: 678 cases, 33 hospitalizations, and 11 deaths
- Covington: 593 cases, 18 hospitalizations, and 4 deaths
- Craig County: 224 cases, 9 hospitalizations, and 3 deaths
- Danville: 3,876 cases, 205 hospitalizations, and 71 deaths
- Floyd County: 697 cases, 23 hospitalizations, and 18 deaths
- Franklin County: 3,489 cases, 116 hospitalizations, and 39 deaths
- Galax: 970 cases, 71 hospitalizations, and 41 deaths
- Giles County: 965 cases, 29 hospitalizations, and 7 deaths
- Grayson County: 1,072 cases, 63 hospitalizations, and 27 deaths
- Halifax County: 2,143 cases, 44 hospitalizations, and 55 deaths
- Henry County: 3,890 cases, 259 hospitalizations, and 83 deaths
- Highland County: 86 cases and 1 hospitalization
- Lexington: 874 cases, 19 hospitalizations, and 18 deaths
- Lynchburg: 6,478 cases, 163 hospitalizations, and 83 deaths
- Martinsville: 1,426 cases, 119 hospitalizations, and 37 deaths
- Montgomery County: 6,564 cases, 143 hospitalizations, and 69 deaths
- Nelson County: 700 cases, 31 hospitalizations, and 6 deaths
- Patrick County: 1,113 cases, 82 hospitalizations, and 29 deaths
- Pittsylvania County: 4,378 cases, 148 hospitalizations, and 46 deaths
- Pulaski County: 2,204 cases, 93 hospitalizations, and 45 deaths
- Radford: 1,824 cases, 36 hospitalizations, and 11 deaths
- Roanoke City: 7,204 cases, 174 hospitalizations, and 130 deaths
- Roanoke County: 6,804 cases, 120 hospitalizations, and 86 deaths
- Rockbridge County: 1,125 cases, 38 hospitalizations, and 29 deaths
- Salem: 1,788 cases, 50 hospitalizations, and 33 deaths
- Wythe County: 1,913 cases, 102 hospitalizations, and 44 deaths

Since Saturday, Feb. 6, VDH reported 52 new coronavirus cases in Wythe County, 34 in Lynchburg, 31 in Roanoke City, 31 in Roanoke County, 24 in Bedford County, 24 in Danville, 24 in Henry County, 21 in Pittsylvania County, 18 in Montgomery County, 17 in Franklin County, 16 in Campbell County, 11 in Amherst County, 11 in Carroll County, 10 in Appomattox County, 10 in Halifax County, 10 in Lexington, nine in Botetourt County, nine in Patrick County, eight in Giles County, seven in Salem, six in Martinsville, six in Nelson County, five in Charlotte County, five in Pulaski County, four in Buena Vista, four in Rockbridge County, three in Galax, three in Grayson County, one in Bath County, one in Covington, one in Craig County, one in Floyd County, and one in Radford.
In addition, of the five newly-reported deaths from Sunday, the department says one is from Wythe County.
Health officials say they have received 22,102 total records of confirmed and probable virus-related hospitalizations around Virginia as of Sunday, which is 67 more hospitalizations than VDH reported on Saturday.
Of these newly-reported hospitalizations from Sunday, five are from Wythe County, which is the locality’s largest single-day increase in hospitalizations; three are from Carroll County; two are from Martinsville; one is from Appomattox County; one is from Charlotte County; one is from Danville; one is from Henry County; and one is from Nelson County.
