Junior League of Roanoke Valley awards over $60,000 in community grants

Roanoke, Virginia – The Junior League of Roanoke Valley (JLRV) has announced a generous sum of over $60,000 in grants being disbursed to support eight local organizations. This comes as part of JLRV’s ongoing commitment to invest in the community. JLRV, a women-led organization recognized for its annual Stocked Market in November, managed to generate $113,000 in 2022 from their volunteer-led holiday event.

JLRV has apportioned a total of $63,900 to the following organizations and projects:

  1. Children’s Miracle Network will receive $10,950 earmarked for the purchase of car seats to ensure the safe transportation of pediatric patients upon discharge.
  2. The Mom H.A.V.E.N. (Harmonizing Access to Vital Educational Networks), a subsidiary of Huddle Up Moms, will benefit from $10,450 to bolster its educational programs for women and to enhance mental health training initiatives.
  3. A sum of $5,000 has been directed to The Ronald McDonald House to aid in replacing the grease trap in the main house’s commercial kitchen.
  4. The Humble Hustle Company will be granted $14,600, which will be used to cover a year’s rent for The Collective, in addition to supporting the Humble Hikes and PRETTY Humble as afterschool options for middle and elementary school students.
  5. The Boys and Girls Club has been allotted $5,000 to defray the remaining cost of a minibus and minivan for its 9th ST location.
  6. Mill Mountain Theatre will receive $5,000 to finance the procurement of books and other expenses related to their Young Audience series, which offers free public shows combined with a reading program.
  7. Family Service of Roanoke Valley has been designated $2,900 to underwrite nutritional care for children and youth involved in their programs, as well as to help purchase high school class rings for students who might otherwise be unable to afford them.
  8. The Rescue Mission of Roanoke, Inc. will receive $5,000 for the procurement and upgrading of laundry machines in the Family Shelter.
  9. A sum of $5,000 will be provided in the form of scholarships for three deserving high school seniors.
