Roanoke County releases holiday closure schedule and service updates for Christmas week

Roanoke, Virginia – Roanoke County has announced its official schedule for the upcoming Christmas holiday week, with several closures and adjusted service hours taking place between Monday, December 22 and Friday, December 26. The changes affect administrative offices, trash collection, public libraries, and recreation services, and residents are encouraged to plan accordingly.

Administrative offices will be closed beginning Wednesday, December 24 through Friday, December 26, and will reopen on Monday, December 29. This includes the Roanoke County Clerk of Circuit Court, which will observe the same closure period.

Trash Collection Rescheduled for the Week

To accommodate the holiday, the trash collection schedule has been shifted:

  • Monday and Tuesday routes will be collected on Monday, December 22

  • Wednesday routes will be collected on Tuesday, December 23

  • Thursday routes will be collected on Wednesday, December 24

Residents are reminded to place containers at the street on their designated collection day and leave them until emptied.

Library Closures and Special Hours

Roanoke County Public Libraries will close early at 5:00 PM on Tuesday, December 23, and reopen on Saturday, December 27. Two branches, Bent Mountain Library and Mt. Pleasant Library, will remain open from 1:00 to 5:00 PM on December 23, but will also reopen on the 27th.

Recreation Facilities and CORTRAN Services

Recreation schedules will also shift for the holiday week:

  • On Wednesday, December 24, the Green Ridge Recreation Center will operate early hours, from 5:30 AM to 1:00 PM, while all other recreation facilities will be closed

  • On Thursday, December 25, all facilities will remain closed

  • On Friday, December 26, the Parks, Recreation and Tourism (PRT) Admin Office and Brambleton Center will remain closed

  • However, Green Ridge Recreation Center will be open on Friday from 5:30 AM to 7:00 PM, and Explore Park Visitor Center will open at 4:00 PM, followed by Illuminights at 5:00 PM

CORTRAN services will not operate from Wednesday, December 24, through Friday, December 26.

Residents are encouraged to complete any essential tasks or inquiries before closures begin on December 24. Roanoke County appreciates the community’s cooperation and wishes everyone a safe and joyful holiday season.
