Traffic pattern changes coming to Garst Mill Road and Brambleton Avenue intersection

Salem, Virginia – Drivers in Roanoke County should prepare for a significant shift in traffic flow at the intersection of Garst Mill Road and Brambleton Avenue, beginning the week of November 17. According to transportation officials, the change is part of a revised lane configuration meant to improve movement through the busy area, though motorists should expect some initial confusion and brief delays.

Left Lane Becomes the New Through Lane

Currently, vehicles traveling straight from Garst Mill Road onto Valley Forge Avenue use the right lane. However, under the new configuration, this straight-through movement will be moved to the left lane. That means drivers in the left lane on Garst Mill will now have the option to either turn left onto Brambleton Avenue or continue straight onto Valley Forge Avenue. The right lane will be restricted to right turns only onto Brambleton Avenue.

The purpose of this shift is to streamline traffic flow and reduce potential confusion at the intersection, though drivers are being urged to pay close attention as they adjust to the new layout.

Expect Delays and Follow Message Boards

Please observe the electronic message board in place to alert drivers to the change in traffic pattern. Crews will be working at the intersection on November 17, and while lane closures are expected, these will occur outside of peak travel times to minimize disruption. Delays may still occur, and officials remind drivers that this work is weather-dependent, so the start date could shift.
