43-year-old woman died after the 38-year-old man she shared no common interest with and was married for less than five months struck her repeatedly in the head with a hatchet; man charged
Hawaii – In a horrific incident in Hawaii, a 38-year-old man, identified as Frank B., has been charged with second-degree murder after authorities say he brutally killed his 43-year-old wife, identified as Aimee B., with a hatchet inside the home they once shared. According to reports, Frank struck Aimee multiple times in the head delivering what medical examiners described as “multiple chop wounds.” The couple was in the middle of a divorce after less than five months of marriage. Frank remains behind bars with bail set at $1 million. Prosecutors say the crime scene evidence, his recent behavior, and a string of disturbing past incidents paint a picture of mounting violence and instability.
The murder came to light on September 4 when the property owner of the rental home where they resided contacted police for a welfare check. He reported that the front door was ajar and that no one responded when he tried to reach the tenants. Both Frank’s and Aimee’s vehicles were still parked in the driveway. Responding officers entered the home and discovered Aimee’s lifeless body in the hallway. She had suffered devastating trauma to her face, neck, and the back of her head. Scattered items inside the residence suggested a violent struggle had taken place.
According to responding officers, the injuries were consistent with both blunt force and a bladed weapon. Nearby, investigators recovered a black hatchet and a fire extinguisher, both of which were taken into evidence. DNA testing later confirmed that the blood on the hatchet matched both Aimee and Frank. In addition, Frank’s jeans and a black glove he was wearing during a separate arrest the night before also tested positive for the victim’s blood. An autopsy confirmed the cause of death as multiple chop wounds, and the case was officially ruled a homicide.
Court records show that Frank and Aimee had married earlier this year, but by August — less than five months in—Frank filed for divorce. In the paperwork, he cited that the two had grown apart and no longer shared common interests, goals, or mutual support. Aimee worked at a public charter school, while Frank was unemployed at the time of the killing. Their relationship had reportedly been rocky from early on.
Only weeks after their wedding, Frank’s mother filed a temporary restraining order against him. She accused him of threatening both her and her husband, pointing a firearm at them, and striking her over the head with the gun. In her statement, she noted that Frank suffered from depression, used medical marijuana, and was four months sober from alcohol at the time. She also mentioned that he had two registered firearms, although they were reportedly not in his possession during that incident. Despite those red flags, no lasting intervention appears to have been made — until it was too late.
Frank was arrested on September 3, the day before the murder was discovered. He was initially picked up on charges unrelated to the killing, including criminal trespassing and terroristic threatening. At the time, officers noted what appeared to be blood on his clothing, prompting further investigation. Now charged with second-degree murder, Frank is being held in police custody without the option of release unless the $1 million bail is posted. His court proceedings are expected to unfold over the coming months. As the investigation continues, loved ones mourn the loss of a woman whose life was cut short not just by a weapon, but by a cycle of conflict and unchecked warning signs.
