Virginia Beach resident becomes millionaire after winning top prize on a Virginia Lottery scratch-off game

Virginia Beach, Virginia – A Virginia Beach resident is now a millionaire after winning the top prize in the Virginia Lottery’s 500X the Money scratch-off game. The lucky winner, who chose to remain anonymous as permitted by state law for prizes over $1 million, described the incredible moment simply as, “It was surreal!”

The winning ticket was purchased at the 7-Eleven located at 437 Kempsville Road in Chesapeake, adding even more excitement for locals who frequent the store. After scratching the ticket, the man discovered he had landed the game’s $7 million top prize, one of the largest prizes currently offered by the Virginia Lottery.

The winner had two options: receive the full $7 million amount paid out over 30 years or take a one-time lump sum cash payout of $4 million before taxes. He opted for the lump sum.

The 500X the Money game is one of many scratchers available across Virginia, offering prizes ranging from $50 to $7 million. According to the Virginia Lottery, this win marks the second top prize that has been claimed from this game, meaning one top prize still remains unclaimed. The odds of winning the top prize are 1 in 2,611,200, while the odds of winning any prize in the game are 1 in 3.39.

The Virginia Lottery continues to promote its scratcher games as not only fun but capable of producing life-changing outcomes—just as this Virginia Beach man experienced firsthand.
