One lane traffic scheduled for Route 3 Norris Bridge while VDOT crews perform maintenance

White Stone, Virginia – Travelers planning to cross the Robert O. Norris Bridge on Route 3 between Lancaster and Middlesex counties should be prepared for brief daytime delays this week.

From Tuesday, July 8 through Friday, July 11, the Virginia Department of Transportation will carry out maintenance work that will reduce traffic to one lane on the bridge spanning the Rappahannock River.

Between the hours of 9 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., Route 3 will be limited to one-way alternating traffic. To manage the flow and ensure safety, “automated flagging devices will direct traffic through the work zone.” These devices will be operated by flagging crew members who can quickly respond to traffic buildup or incidents that may occur during the project.

Officials note that the planned lane closures and maintenance schedule are weather dependent. Motorists are advised to allow extra time for travel and remain alert when approaching the work zone.
