Roanoke County urges residents to reserve 9-1-1 for emergencies during severe weather, provides additional contacts for utility outages

Roanoke, Virginia – Roanoke County is urging citizens to reserve calls to 9-1-1 strictly for medical and rescue emergencies during periods of severe weather. In light of recent conditions, the county has provided alternative contact numbers for reporting utility outages, ensuring that emergency lines remain open for those in immediate need.

Residents experiencing power outages are advised to contact Appalachian Power at 1-800-956-4237. For water main breaks, the Western Virginia Water Authority can be reached at 540-853-5700. If a gas leak is suspected, Roanoke Gas Company should be contacted at 540-777-0623.

By directing non-emergency utility issues to these numbers, Roanoke County aims to maintain the efficiency of its emergency services and prioritize urgent calls. Residents are encouraged to keep these contact numbers handy during severe weather events.
