Roanoke, Virginia – The Roanoke Fire Department is set to organize a public service initiative — a free car seat inspection — at the Roanoke City Fire Station 6 on July 20.

It is noteworthy to point out a critical safety concern raised by the City of Roanoke: Seven out of ten car seats installed by parents or caregivers do not adhere to correct installation procedures. Furthermore, vehicular accidents rank as the leading cause of child fatalities. In response to this, the city offers numerous guidelines on how to safeguard your child while in the vehicle.
These include ensuring you purchase an age-appropriate car seat, with children below 2 years typically recommended to use rear-facing car seats. Correctly installing the car seat using either the seat belt or the lower anchors is also crucial — avoid using both simultaneously, especially for forward-facing children. Additionally, a properly adjusted harness provides optimal protection.
