Roanoke sees a downward trend in gasoline prices

Roanoke, Virginia – As reported on Monday, July 3, the average gasoline price in Roanoke has experienced a decline of 2.7 cents per gallon over the past week, according to a survey by GasBuddy of 155 local stations.

The current average stands at $3.20 per gallon. When compared to last month, prices have dropped by 0.7 cents per gallon and, compared to the previous year, the prices are lower by 119.6 cents per gallon. The national average price for diesel has also decreased, falling 3.4 cents over the last week to stand at $3.80 per gallon.

As per GasBuddy’s price data, the most affordable gas station in Roanoke was selling fuel at $3.04 per gallon on Sunday, whereas the most expensive station had prices set at $3.75 per gallon. This difference amounted to a significant 71.0 cents per gallon. State-wide, the lowest price was $2.89 per gallon and the highest was $4.29 per gallon on Sunday, indicating a price disparity of $1.40 per gallon.

Nationally, the average price of gasoline decreased by 4.1 cents per gallon in the last week, reaching an average of $3.50 per gallon on Monday. This figure is 1.9 cents per gallon less than last month and 129.3 cents per gallon less than the previous year. This information was compiled from GasBuddy’s database, consisting of over 11 million weekly price reports from more than 150,000 gas stations across the country.

Patrick De Haan, the head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy, comments, “Just prior to Independence Day, the national average has dropped to its lowest since late April, with oil prices experiencing significant downward pressure due to the uncertain global economic forecast. We may see additional reductions in gasoline prices, particularly as we approach the end of the summer season next month.”

He continues, “For the time being, gasoline demand is anticipated to surge as we enter the peak summer period, with millions of Americans expected to travel by road, benefiting from some of the season’s lowest average gasoline prices. As we reach the midpoint of the year, the national average aligns with our full-year average forecast. However, the potential exists for end-of-year prices to fall below our expectations, which would certainly be well-received by motorists. The prospect of the national average dipping below $3 per gallon this autumn is also within the realm of possibility.”
