LEAP unveils new building in Roanoke, aims to strengthen community engagement

Roanoke, Virginia – The Local Environmental Agriculture Project (LEAP), a non-profit organization based in Roanoke’s West End, is optimistic that their new building will enhance their engagement with the community.

LEAP, an organization with the mission of supporting farmers and championing the cause of affordable food, recently celebrated the inauguration of their new premises. This construction project was made possible through funds provided by the American Rescue Plan Act. The newly built facility includes a food hub operation, office spaces, a retail store, and a dedicated area for a weekly farmers’ market, scheduled every Tuesday.

Maureen Best, the Executive Director of LEAP, expresses confidence that this new location will bolster their visibility within the community and help prioritize the importance of food.

“And it really just helps make food be something front of mind, and encouraging people to think about where the food is coming from, how they’re eating and how do we really build stronger connections,” Best stated. “So, that food is affordable and available to everyone in the community.”

A public open house will be held on Saturday at 3 p.m. to showcase the new building. Located at 1027 Patterson Ave. SW, the event will feature guided tours, live music, engaging games, food for purchase, and comprehensive information about LEAP’s mission and initiatives.
