Virginia AG highlights need for more officers in urban areas
Roanoke, Virginia – In a recent address, Virginia Attorney General Jason Miyares asserted that police staffing levels are gradually rising throughout the state, even though law enforcement agencies in city regions continue to operate with stretched resources.
Miyares was in Roanoke yesterday, advocating for more individuals to consider a career in law enforcement. His visit coincided with National Police Week, a time when he also encouraged existing officers from other states to consider relocating to Virginia to bolster the local force.
The Attorney General’s plea resonates with a call to action made earlier by Governor Glenn Youngkin. In October, Governor Youngkin introduced Operation Bold Blue Line, an initiative geared towards enhancing law enforcement recruitment and retention.
As we mark the seven-month milestone since its implementation, it’s worth noting that the initiative’s comprehensive five-step plan encompasses not only addressing the issue of insufficient compensation in the law enforcement sector but also expediting the training process for new recruits.
