Roanoke’s annual Strawberry Festival brings community together

Roanoke, Virginia – Roanoke’s annual Strawberry Festival, a beloved tradition in the Star City, is just around the corner, promising a delightful two-day event filled with mouthwatering desserts, local crafts, live music, and exciting activities for all.

The festival, which takes place on May 5th and 6th, will be hosted at Elmwood Park and features the famous strawberry shortcake as its star dessert, made with locally milled flour, fresh Homestead Creamery milk, and soft butter, all mixed with an abundance of love.

Prior to the public’s arrival, dedicated volunteers will spend hours hand-cutting over 2000 pounds of fresh strawberries to ensure the dessert is nothing less than perfection.

Executive Director of the Community School, Linda Roth, shared her enthusiasm for the festival saying, “The Strawberry Festival is a cherished tradition at our school, and I am proud to see it thrive year after year. We are grateful for the enthusiasm and support of our parents, alumni, and the wider community that make it possible to bring so many people together for a day of fun, food, and festivities.”

The festival offers much more than just desserts, as local vendors will be selling hand-made crafts, while booths hosted by local businesses and non-profit organizations will also be present. Attendees can expect to be entertained by live music, dance performances, and stilt walkers, creating a festive atmosphere for all.

The festival runs from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday. Admission to the festival is free, but those with a sweet tooth can purchase dessert tickets in advance, including the signature strawberry shortcake, strawberry sundae, berries and cream, and chocolate-dipped strawberries.
