Botetourt County Public Schools ranked 4th in math and 7th in overall reading. It was 3rd overall for the least amount of learning loss during the pandemic

ROANOKE, Virginia – During last week’s “State of the County” presentation, Botetourt County Public Schools talked about how well they had done.

As a division, they did well in a number of areas.

Botetourt was ranked 4th in math and 7th in reading out of 132 school divisions in Virginia.

During the pandemic, it had the third least learning loss of any country.

The graduation rate in the county is 2.5% higher than the average for the state.

We talked to the head of the school about what had been done.

“We have great teachers and great people in charge of the building. So, most of the credit for student success goes to the staff,” Superintendent Dr. Jonathan Russ said. “But I don’t think our scores would be as high as they are if parents didn’t help, if parents didn’t pay attention and show their own kids that their success in school is important to them.

On state tests, the county also got the 6th best score overall.
