Westbound ramps at Route 7 and I 66 to be shut down overnight for scheduled roadwork

Falls Church, Virginia – The Virginia Department of Transportation has announced a series of overnight ramp closures on Route 7 and I-66 for upcoming paving work. These closures are scheduled to take place on Wednesday night, June 25; Thursday night, June 26; and Sunday night, June 29, weather permitting.

Scheduled Ramp Closures and Detours

On both Wednesday and Thursday nights, from 11 p.m. to 4 a.m. the following mornings, the ramp from westbound Route 7 (Leesburg Pike) to westbound I-66 will be closed. During these hours, drivers will not be able to merge directly onto westbound I-66. Instead, traffic will be rerouted via westbound Route 7, where drivers will make a U-turn at Pimmit Drive to return on eastbound Route 7 and then take the on-ramp to westbound I-66.

On Thursday night, June 26, and Sunday night, June 29, another closure will impact commuters. From 11 p.m. to 4 a.m. the following mornings, the ramp from westbound I-66 to eastbound Route 7 (Exit 66A to Falls Church) will also be closed. Drivers affected by this closure will be detoured prior to the ramp via Exit 66B to westbound Route 7 (Tysons). From there, they will continue on westbound Route 7 and make a U-turn at Pimmit Drive to access eastbound Route 7.

Safety and Navigation Reminder

VDOT urges drivers to follow all posted detour signs and drive with caution through work zones. These closures are part of routine roadway maintenance and paving efforts to enhance driving conditions and road safety.

Motorists are advised to allow extra travel time and plan alternate routes if possible. As always, schedules are subject to change depending on weather conditions and unforeseen circumstances.
