Baby boy hospitalized after his mother, who kept the pregnancy a secret from her boyfriend, wrapped the baby in towels after giving birth and put the boy in trash bag; mother charged

Georgia – In a harrowing incident that has gripped Georgia, a 22-year-old woman, identified as A. Rappuhn, faces serious charges after her newborn was discovered in a trash bag on the back porch of her residence. Rappuhn has been charged with criminal attempt to commit felony murder, reckless abandonment of a child, and first-degree cruelty to children, following a distressing sequence of events that led to the endangerment of her newborn son.

The situation came to light on March 31, 2025, when sheriff’s office deputies responded to a call at the hospital. Rappuhn was brought to the hospital by her boyfriend due to excessive bleeding, a situation that arose after she secretly gave birth at their home.

Unknown to her boyfriend, Rappuhn had given birth to a baby boy around 4:30 a.m. that day. In a shocking move, she wrapped the infant in towels and placed him inside a trash bag, which she then left on the back porch of their home. Her boyfriend, unaware of the pregnancy and the birth, only discovered the infant upon returning home to retrieve some of Rappuhn’s belongings. He was alerted by noises coming from the trash bag, leading to the grim discovery of the newborn. Upon finding the infant, the boyfriend rushed the child to the same hospital where Rappuhn was being treated. Medical staff reported that the male infant was in critical but stable condition, fighting for his life after the ordeal.

During the investigation, it was revealed that Rappuhn had not disclosed her pregnancy to her boyfriend, nor did she inform the medical staff at the hospital about the birth when she arrived for her own medical emergency. The sequence of events raised serious questions about her intentions and mental state. On April 1, 2025, Rappuhn was taken into custody after her release from the hospital. Due to the severity of the charges, including the attempt to commit felony murder, her bond was denied, ensuring she would remain in custody pending further judicial proceedings.

The case has left the community and local authorities in shock, grappling with the disturbing nature of the incident. The sheriff’s office has expressed its commitment to justice, highlighting the tireless efforts of the investigators involved in bringing clarity and accountability to this unsettling case. As Rappuhn awaits her legal proceedings, the legal focus will remain on the welfare of the newborn and ensuring that justice is served in a case that has not only broken legal boundaries but also the fundamental trust expected of a parent. The community continues to rally support for the infant, hoping for a full recovery and a better future away from the circumstances of his harrowing entry into the world.
