16-year-old boy called 911 saying ‘something bad possessed and took control’ of him after he slaughtered his family, including his 14-and-17-year-old brothers and parents; arrested

New Mexico – In a disturbing incident in New Mexico, a 16-year-old boy, identified as Diego L., has been charged with the murder of four members of his family, including his 14-year-old brother, identified as Alexander L., 17-year-old brother, identified as Adrian L., 42-year-old father, identified as Leonardo L., and 35-year-old mother, identified as Adriana B. This tragic incident has left the community in shock and law enforcement grappling with the unsettling details that have emerged.

Early on the morning of December 14, 2024, Diego made a chilling 911 call from his family home. During the call, he confessed to the dispatcher that he had killed his entire family. The transcript of the call, partially released by news outlets, reveals a disturbing conversation where Diego claimed, “I just wanted to call you to tell you that I killed my parents. My whole family.” When asked by the dispatcher about the night’s events, Diego responded, “I don’t know, I think something took control of me. I don’t know something bad possessed me… I don’t know, it just happened.”

The call escalated in eeriness as the dispatcher inquired who Diego was speaking to in the background, to which he chillingly replied, “That’s my dad,” and described him as “gargling.” Despite the dispatcher’s efforts to get Diego to assist his father, he refused.

Authorities were promptly dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival, they found Diego outside the house with his hands raised, appearing extremely intoxicated. Inside the residence, the bodies of Leonardo, Adriana, Adrian, and Alexander were discovered. All had suffered suspected gunshot wounds, and a handgun was found on the kitchen table.

Diego was taken into custody and initially brought to a hospital for detoxification due to his intoxicated state. After being medically cleared, he was transferred to a juvenile detention center. Diego has been charged with four counts of first-degree murder. The details of his court appearance and future legal proceedings are yet to be disclosed as investigators continue to process the crime scene and interview potential witnesses.

The motive behind the killings remains unclear, and the investigation is ongoing. State Police have not released further details about the circumstances that led to this tragic event or any insights into Diego’s mental or emotional state at the time of the incident.

This incident has profoundly impacted the local community and the broader network of emergency responders, given Adriana’s role as a volunteer firefighter. The local authorities and the community are now faced with the difficult task of coming to terms with such a significant loss under violent and tragic circumstances.

The state police, along with the district attorney’s office, are committed to thorough investigative processes to ensure justice is served. Meanwhile, the community continues to rally around the memory of the victims, remembering their contributions and coping with the aftermath of this unimaginable tragedy.

As the case progresses through the legal system, many are looking for answers that may never fully explain the reasons behind such a devastating act. This event underscores the importance of addressing mental health and substance abuse issues, particularly among youth, to prevent such tragedies in the future.
