Couple planned to rob a man who welcomed them into his home and let them live with him, so they waited for him to fall asleep before stabbing him to death and stealing his cars and money; charged

Texas – In a gruesome turn of events in Texas that left residents shocked, a young couple has been charged with the brutal murder of a 53-year-old man, identified as J. Ross, who had welcomed them into his home. The couple, a 20-year-old woman, identified as H. Barber, and a 20-year-old man, identified as L. Moore, face charges of capital murder, among other offenses, following a betrayal that ended in violence and death.

The police department responded to a distressing scene in the early hours of November 11, 2024, where they discovered Ross deceased as a result of multiple stab wounds in his own condominium. The investigation quickly pointed to foul play and identified Barber and Moore, who were living with Ross, as suspects.

Both Barber and Moore were charged with capital murder by terror, threat, or other felony and evading arrest or detention. Moore faces an additional charge of property theft over $2,500 after the victim’s vehicle was stolen and later recovered following a brief police chase involving the suspects.

Details emerged that painted a chilling picture of premeditation and brutality. According to reports, Barber and Moore drugged Ross’ drink and waited for him to fall asleep before launching their lethal attack. The assault left Ross with fatal stab wounds inflicted while he slept on his couch. The ordeal did not end quickly; after leaving the condo for several hours, the couple returned to find Ross still alive, leading to further violence. According to reports, Barber told Moore to “finish off” Ross so she didn’t have to watch him suffer. Moore “followed” Barber’s “order” and stabbed Ross in the upper back until he succumbed to his injuries.

The police, bolstered by evidence and a probable cause affidavit, pieced together the couple’s movements and actions. Surveillance footage from a neighbor’s doorbell camera showed Barber and Moore entering and exiting the condo multiple times around the estimated time of the murder, which authorities believe occurred days before Ross was found.

Inside the residence, investigators found disturbing signs of the struggle and attempts to conceal the crime. Bloody towels, shoes, and a Bowie knife were discovered, along with Ross’ body grotesquely wrapped in garbage bags, sheets, and a rug.

The investigation revealed a sinister plot to rob Ross of his possessions. Barber had sold a car that belonged to Ross to an acquaintance, lying about its ownership and revealing the crime only when pressured about the “foul smell” in the condo. She confessed to the acquaintance that she and Moore had planned to steal Ross’ money and vehicles.

During police interrogations, Barber disclosed their cruel intentions and actions, detailing how they planned the murder and executed it in cold blood. Moore’s confession corroborated this, admitting to stabbing Ross initially and then again fatally at Barber’s “order” to end his suffering.

The community has been left shocked by the brutality of the crime, especially considering the victim had offered his home to the young couple. The door has now closed on any possibility of a light sentence for Barber and Moore, as they face life in prison without parole, reflecting the severity and premeditated nature of their actions.

As the legal proceedings advance, the case serves as a grim reminder of the depths of betrayal and the dark capabilities of those who exploit kindness for their gain. The loss Ross has not only left a void in his family but also a stain of horror on the community he once lived in. The suspects, held on a $1,000,000 bond each, await further court proceedings, which will decide their final fate.
