Floyd man wins $245,000 playing Virginia Lottery’s Cash 5 with EZ Match game

Floyd, Virginia – Michael Tulley of Floyd, Virginia, is still in disbelief after winning an impressive $245,000 jackpot in the Virginia Lottery’s Cash 5 with EZ Match game. “I’m just staring at it. I’m in shock, total shock!” Tulley said, recalling the moment he realized his life-changing win.

The retired paramedic purchased the winning ticket at West End Market, located at 269 Floyd Highway South in Floyd. Using the Easy Pick option, Tulley allowed the computer to generate random numbers for his ticket. To his amazement, all five numbers on his ticket—3, 13, 22, 34, and 45—matched the winning numbers drawn on October 10, securing the jackpot.

No Immediate Plans, Just Bills to Pay

Despite the thrill of his win, Tulley says he plans to keep things simple for now. “I have no immediate plans for my winnings except to pay bills,” he explained.

The Cash 5 with EZ Match game is unique to Virginia and features a rolling jackpot that begins at $200,000, growing until it is won. Drawings for the game take place nightly at 11:00 p.m. The odds of matching all five numbers to win the jackpot stand at 1 in 1,221,759, making Tulley’s win even more remarkable.

Supporting Virginia’s Education System

Every dollar spent on Virginia Lottery tickets contributes to public education in the state. In fact, Floyd County, where Tulley resides, received more than $1.5 million from the Virginia Lottery to support K-12 education during the last fiscal year.

For the fiscal year 2024, the Virginia Lottery raised over $934 million for K-12 education across the state, accounting for approximately 10 percent of Virginia’s overall K-12 education budget. These funds go directly toward improving schools, classrooms, and educational resources.
