City of Roanoke announces trash and recycling schedule changes for Columbus Day

Roanoke, Virginia – City of Roanoke will observe Columbus Day on Monday, October 14, 2024, resulting in the closure of all city offices for the holiday. This closure affects the usual sanitation schedule, prompting a shift in the collection of trash, bulk items, brush, and recycling.

Revised Collection Schedule Due to the holiday, the following adjustments have been made to accommodate the collection of trash and recycling:

  • Monday’s Routes: Collections scheduled for Monday will be moved to Tuesday.
  • Tuesday’s Routes: Collections scheduled for Tuesday will be moved to Wednesday.
  • Wednesday’s Routes: Collections scheduled for Wednesday will be moved to Thursday.
  • Thursday’s Routes: Collections scheduled for Thursday will be moved to Friday.

This one-day delay applies to trash, bulk, brush, and B WEEK single-stream recycling services throughout the week. Residents are urged to adjust their schedules accordingly and set out their disposables on the revised collection day.
