Registration is now open for Roanoke’s Spooky Sprint 5K that returns to Wasena Park on October 26

Roanoke, Virginia – Returning this fall, the much-awaited Spooky Sprint 5K promises to once again bring fun, exercise, and a bit of fright to Wasena Park on Saturday, October 26. An annual highlight for both locals and guests, this year’s event looks to be an interesting adventure for all ages supporting the important community initiatives of The West End Center for Youth.

Beginning early in the day with a lively costume contest at 8:30 a.m., the day sets the mood for the major event, the 5K run, which starts at 9:00 a.m. Participants are urged to look into their closets or visit the closest costume shop to arrive dressed in Halloween best. Prize winners will be in numerous categories: best group, most family-friendly, best pet costume, most innovative, spookiest clothing.

It’s about community spirit and helping a wonderful cause, not only about the marathon as every year the runners exhibit amazing creativity. The Spooky Sprint is a beloved community tradition because of the festive mood and friendly rivalry.

Runners of all ages should get ready to potentially win a medal since medals will be offered in several age groups and general race divisions. After crossing the finish line, participants and spectators alike can enjoy a range of post-race festivities planned until 2:00 p.m. Among the amenities are live music, local cuisine and beer, kid face painting, and a bouncy house likely to be popular.

Packet pick-up for the race is scheduled for Friday, October 25, from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at RunAbout Sports Roanoke. For those unable to make it the day before, a last-minute pick-up window is also available on race day at the park, from 8:00 a.m. to 8:30 a.m.

Interested participants are advised to reserve their position fast since rates will climb to $45.00 after October 22. Their registration charge is $40.00 plus a $3.40 sign-up fee. Apart from giving an opportunity for physical exercise, the race helps The West End Center for Youth, a pillar institution committed to provide young people in the neighborhood with educational and development chances, ongoing work.
