Roanoke joins nationwide #WearOrange campaign for gun violence awareness

Roanoke, Virginia – On June 2, the United States will commemorate National Gun Violence Awareness Day, a day dedicated to the memory of the 43,000 individuals whose lives are tragically ended by gun violence each year.

This year, the City of Roanoke is extending an invitation to its inhabitants to participate in the nationwide #WearOrange initiative on Friday, June 2. The establishment of this campaign was driven by a desire to express unity with those who have been victims of gun violence and to cast a spotlight on the issue of firearm-related harm.

The campaign is set to span over the course of the weekend, commencing on June 2 and concluding on June 4. For those who wish to gain insight into the genesis and objective of the #WearOrange campaign, further information can be found here.
