$50,000 Virginia Lottery prize remains unclaimed as deadline approaches for Powerball ticket holder

Richmond, Virginia – A winning Virginia Lottery ticket worth $50,000 remains unclaimed, and time is running out for the holder to collect the prize. The Powerball ticket, purchased for the March 16 drawing, matched four of the first five numbers plus the Powerball number, securing a $50,000 prize. However, no one has come forward to claim it.

According to Virginia Lottery rules, winning tickets expire 180 days after the drawing. The deadline for this particular ticket is 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 12, after which the ticket will become worthless. The unclaimed ticket was bought at the 7-Eleven located at 10520 James Madison Parkway in King George.

Time is Running Out

The winning numbers from the March 16 drawing were 12-23-44-57-61, with a Powerball number of 5. The lucky ticket matched four out of five numbers along with the Powerball number, but the prize remains unclaimed. By law, unclaimed winnings are directed to Virginia’s Literary Fund, which supports public school construction, renovations, and technology upgrades through low-interest loans to localities.

Anyone holding the winning ticket should immediately contact the Virginia Lottery. The ticket can be redeemed at any of the Lottery’s eight customer service centers across the state.

Supporting Virginia Education

All Virginia Lottery profits contribute to K-12 education in the state. Last fiscal year, King George County, where the ticket was purchased, received over $2.3 million in Lottery funds for K-12 education. In Fiscal Year 2024, the Lottery generated more than $934 million for Virginia’s school budget, which accounts for about 10 percent of the total K-12 funding.
