The ordeal began shortly after 5:30 p.m. when a deputy attempted to pull over Papalas for a driving violation. Instead of complying, Papalas accelerated, leading to a high-speed pursuit. The chase ended tragically when her vehicle veered off the road, plowed through a fence, collided with trees, and rolled several times before coming to a halt.
Upon arrival at the crash site, the deputy found Papalas standing outside her overturned car. In a distressing scene, she was seen reaching into the backseat through the window to extract her 17-month-old son.
