Roanoke County announces adjusted recreation and administrative services hours for Independence Day 2024

Roanoke, Virginia – Roanoke County has announced its holiday schedule for Independence Day, with various administrative and recreational adjustments to accommodate the celebrations on Thursday, July 4th, 2024.

Office and Administrative Closures

The Roanoke County administrative offices will be closed on July 4th to observe the Independence Day holiday. This includes the Roanoke County Public Service Center and the Brambleton Recreation Center, which will also remain closed. Additionally, the Roanoke County Circuit Court will not only be closed on Thursday, July 4th but will extend its closure through Friday, July 5th.

Trash Collection Adjustments

Residents should note changes in the trash collection schedule. While Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday routes will be collected as usual, the collections typically scheduled for Thursday will be shifted to Friday, July 5th.

Parks and Recreation Hours

For those looking to enjoy the holiday outdoors, several parks and recreational facilities will have modified hours:

  • Green Ridge Recreation Center will be open from 5:30 AM to 2:00 PM.
  • Explore Park Visitor Center will welcome visitors from 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM.
  • Treetop Quest at Explore Park will be available from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
  • Splash Valley Water Park is set to open from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

Library Services

All Roanoke County Public Library (RCPL) locations will close early at 5 PM on Wednesday, July 3rd and will not open on Thursday, July 4th.

Transportation Services

There will be no CORTRAN services available on Thursday, July 4th. Additionally, those planning to hike and relying on transportation should note that there will be no McAfee Knob Trailhead shuttle service on Independence Day.

Residents and visitors of Roanoke County should plan accordingly to ensure they can enjoy the holiday with minimal inconvenience and are encouraged to take advantage of the recreational opportunities available during the adjusted hours.
