Virginia sees 1,242 new coronavirus cases, now reporting 138,702 statewide

Virginia – As of September 18, Virginia is now reporting 138,702 cases of the coronavirus across the commonwealth since March.

Friday’s total of 138,702 marks an increase from Thursday’s total of 137,460 cases.

Here is a breakdown of the 1,242 new coronavirus cases in Virginia:

  • 120 new cases in Fairfax County
  • 83 new cases in Prince William County
  • 62 new cases in Harrisonburg
  • 61 new cases in Portsmouth and Roanoke City
  • 60 new cases in Charlottesville
  • 48 new cases in Loudoun County and Montgomery County
  • 46 new cases in Chesterfield County
  • 43 new cases in Virginia Beach
  • 28 new cases in Arlington County and Chesapeake
  • 27 new cases in Richmond City and Henrico County
  • 23 new cases in Caroline County
  • 22 new cases in Alexandria
  • 20 new cases in Washington County
  • 19 new cases in Roanoke County
  • 18 new cases in Lynchburg
  • 16 new cases in Danville
  • 14 new cases in Norfolk, Rockingham County and Prince George County
  • 13 new cases in Hampton
  • 12 new cases in Fauquier County
  • 11 new cases in Stafford County and Petersburg
  • 10 new cases in Staunton, Pittsylvania County, Pulaski County and Amherst County
  • 9 new cases in Radford and Newport News
  • 8 new cases in Suffolk, Henry County, Dinwiddie County, Bedford County and Albemarle County
  • 7 new cases in Spotsylvania County, Prince Edward County, Lancaster County and Buchanan County
  • 6 new cases in Northumberland County, Halifax County, Culpeper County, Winchester, James City County and York County
  • 5 new cases in Isle of Wight County, Smyth County, Wythe County, Essex County, Fluvanna County, Mecklenburg County and Tazewell County
  • 4 new cases in Franklin County, Frederick County, Giles County, Manassas Park, Accomack County and Dickenson County
  • 3 new cases in Hanover County, Nottoway County, Manassas, Waynesboro, Bristol, Carroll County, Franklin City, Westmoreland County, Louisa County and Sussex County
  • 2 new cases in Augusta County, Martinsville, Hopewell, Goochland County, Orange County, Greensville County, Campbell County, Botetourt County, Salem, Lunenburg County, Craig County and Lexington
  • 1 new case in Southampton County, Russell County, King William County, Surry County, Page County, Appomattox County, Fredericksburg, Rockbridge County, Madison County, Brunswick County, Lee County, Charlotte County, Clarke County, Nelson County, Buena Vista, Richmond County, Floyd County, Galax, Falls Church, Northampton County and Alleghany County
  • Powhatan County, Gloucester County and Amelia County all decreased by one case

As of Friday, the Virginia Dept. of Health reports there have been 1,982,668 total testing encounters.

The term “testing encounters” includes individuals who have been tested more than once due to their profession, high-risk status or need for a negative result to return to work. The health department started using this metric on May 1.
