Man trusted his wife with preparing his beverages in the morning until the smoothies tasted unusual, and he decided to set up a camera only to find out she was putting roots in the blender that were causing irregular heart rhythm and slowing down the heart

A 37-year-old woman, identified as Sarah, has been arrested and charged with one count of first-degree attempted murder and one count of armed criminal action in connection with a case that has sent shockwaves through the community and revolves around Sarah’s alleged attempts to poison her husband with a toxic plant.

The charges against Sarah stem from her attempt to kill her husband by poisoning his smoothies with the “lily of the valley” plant. This plant is known for its major toxicity, with authorities stating that it can slow down the heart and cause irregular heart rhythms. Sarah’s arrest followed a detailed investigation after her husband reported his suspicions to the authorities. According to a probable cause affidavit, Sarah’s husband had been suspecting her of adding poisonous substances to his food and beverages for about six weeks. He recounted approximately eight instances where the food or beverages she provided had a strange taste. Post-ingestion, he suffered from symptoms like extreme fatigue, confusion, blurred vision, and nausea.

The situation escalated on December 31 when her husband received a smoothie from Sarah that tasted unusually bitter. Upon confrontation, she initially claimed to have urinated in it, then admitted to adding an industrial-strength adhesive, and later denied putting anything in the beverage. Growing increasingly concerned, Sarah’s husband installed a hidden camera in their kitchen. On January 16, he observed a bag labeled “lily of the valley” and a green bowl containing a root from the bag on a table in Sarah’s work area. He photographed these and captured video footage of Sarah adding items to a blender and preparing a smoothie, which he later presented to the police.

Upon reviewing the evidence, including the surveillance footage and the photographed items, the police took immediate action. They seized the tumbler containing the smoothie and submitted it for laboratory testing. During questioning, Sarah admitted to adding the “lily of the valley” root into the blender with the intent to harm her husband. She acknowledged her awareness of the plant’s lethal potential and admitted knowing her actions were illegal. Sarah is currently detained in jail without bond. Her arraignment is scheduled for Friday.
