Troopers injured as drug investigation leads to two state police vehicles colliding in Roanoke

ROANOKE, Va.  — Two state troopers were injured in a two-vehicle crash Wednesday afternoon in Roanoke.
According to Virginia State Police, just before 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday, April 7, they were assisting with an ongoing narcotics High-Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA) investigation that was taking place in southeast Roanoke.
As troopers approached a suspect vehicle in a parking lot at the intersection of 9th Street SE and Morrill Avenue SE, that vehicle quickly sped away.
A pursuit was instantly initiated; however, two Virginia State Police vehicles collided.
Both troopers were taken to the hospital for minor injuries.
No other vehicles, including the suspect vehicle, were involved in the crash, which remains under investigation.
