Man returned to the woman he had previously stabbed several times while she was sitting right outside her apartment complex to check her pulse to make sure she was dead and then stabbed her three more times before fleeing the scene on foot

Authorities said they took a 24-year-old man into custody last month in connection with the stabbing death of a 52-year-old woman and charged him with one count of murder. As per reports, the man, identified later as Miles, was arrested shortly after officers searched the area around the crime scene following the incident in which Miles approached the woman while she was speaking over the phone with her teenage daughter right outside her own apartment complex and, for no apparent reason, stabbed her several times.

According to authorities, officers within the police department responded to the apartment complex after receiving a report regarding a disturbance involving a weapon in the early afternoon hours of October 28. Once the first responders got to the scene, they located an adult female, later identified as Talat, by the common area picnic tables who was suffering from apparent stab wounds to the body. Despite attempting life-saving measures on Talat, she succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, while the alleged assailant was nowhere to be found and had reportedly already fled the scene on foot.

Eyewitness accounts played a crucial role in the investigation. Witnesses, including several young children, reported seeing the attack unfold and provided a detailed description of the assailant to the authorities. Investigators spoke to witnesses who claimed that Miles returned to the victim after the attack, checked her pulse, probably to make sure she was dead, and then stabbed her three more times before eventually fleeing the scene when a nearby firefighter on leave approached him and confronted Miles with a weapon.

The officers set up a perimeter around the crime scene, and after searching the area, they were able to arrest Miles, who was not far from where the attack took place. He is now being held in jail with a bond set at $500,000. The motives behind the murder are still unclear, although the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) has indicated their close monitoring of the investigation, given that Talat, a respected doctor, was Muslim.
