Authorities investigate drowning case at Smith Mountain Lake

Roanoke, Virginia – The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office has reported a tragic incident that took place at Smith Mountain Lake on Monday.

Jerson Martinez, a 25-year-old from Roanoke, drowned in the lake. Authorities were alerted around 10:45 a.m. and promptly arrived at the Crazy Horse Marina locale. Martinez, previously reported missing, was declared dead upon being pulled from the water. The combined efforts of the sheriff’s office, Scruggs Volunteer Fire and Rescue, and Franklin County Public Safety facilitated the retrieval.

Currently, the investigators await autopsy findings. However, initial assessments indicate that “circumstances of the death do not appear to be suspicious.”
