Roanoke City Public Schools introduces clear bag policy for sports events

Roanoke, Virginia – Roanoke City Public Schools has implemented a clear bag policy for middle and high school sports events.

This policy went into effect on September 8. The city has clarified that there will be no specific constraints on the dimensions or design of these transparent containers, provided the contents are visible. Although medical supply bags are permissible, the preference is for these supplies to be housed in transparent bags.

Items that will not be permitted at these sporting events include:

  • Backpacks
  • Camera Bags
  • Cinch Bags
  • Purses
  • Weapons of Any Kind
  • Fanny Packs
  • Coolers/Ice Chests
  • Computer Bags
  • Bikes
  • Skateboards
  • Fireworks
  • Laser Pointers
  • Drones
  • Hoverboards

For the convenience of attendees, transparent bags will be available for purchase at the sporting events.

Furthermore, the city is introducing a beverage regulation that will prevent spectators from bringing external beverages into venues hosting school-sanctioned athletic events.

It should be noted that exceptions to both the transparent bag and external beverage rules will be applied for athletes, event participants, and officials.
