Virginia Lottery Mega Millions contributes $31.1 million to K-12 education

Richmond, Virginia – The Virginia Lottery reports that sales from Mega Millions tickets contributed an estimated $31.1 million towards K-12 education.

A notable winning ticket valued at $20,000 was procured at the Salem Sheetz establishment.

It should be emphasized that the profits garnered from the Virginia Lottery are directly allocated to K-12 education within the state. The fiscal data for 2022 indicates that the Lottery generated in excess of $779 million, constituting around 10 percent of the overall budget dedicated to K-12 education in Virginia.

Following the April 18 drawing, the Mega Millions jackpot saw unprecedented growth. This culminated in a record jackpot sum of $1.58 billion on August 8, marking a historic milestone for Mega Millions. After a single ticket successfully matched all requisite numbers to secure the grand prize, the forthcoming jackpot, set for the August 11 drawing, will commence at a starting value of $20 million.
