Highway reopened following reported gunfire incident, Virginia State Police Investigating

Roanoke County, Virginia – Virginia State Police confirmed that they are looking into an incident where gunshots were reportedly fired, which had led to the temporary closure of Interstate 81 in Roanoke County.

The authorities were alerted to the occurrence around 9 a.m., following a motorist’s claim that their vehicle was purportedly hit by a bullet after they had exited via the 141 ramp.

Upon receiving the report, response teams were immediately dispatched to the area to carry out an investigation. This prompted the shutdown of I-81 North, disrupting traffic for a period exceeding an hour. As part of the thorough inspection, trained police dogs were deployed to sweep the vicinity. However, they were unable to locate any bullet shells on the scene. Consequently, the investigation into the incident continues as the police strive to piece together the details.

The highway has been reopened to the public.

Roanoke Daily Magazine, as a dedicated local news source, is currently pursuing further details about the incident. We will update our readers with the latest information as it becomes available.
