Law enforcement warns against scam calls and urges residents to remain vigilant

Lynchburg, Virginia – An alert has been issued concerning scam phone calls targeting the residents of our community. This warning comes following the collaborative investigation by numerous local law enforcement agencies, including Roanoke County and the Lynchburg Police Department (LPD).

Authorities have identified the scam operation, in which perpetrators falsely impersonate police officials to deceitfully solicit money from the residents. The public is hereby reminded by law enforcement agencies that they do not, under any circumstances, request financial contributions over the phone.

Upon receiving any call that solicits money while claiming to be from law enforcement, residents are strongly advised to refrain from disclosing any personal information. Such calls should be reported to the police without delay.

Those in possession of any information related to this fraudulent operation are urged to immediately get in touch with the Lynchburg Police Department at 434-455-6050. Alternatively, you can report this information to Crime Stoppers, either via the phone at 1-888-798-5900, through their online portal at http://p3tips.com, or by utilizing the P3 mobile application.
