Board of Supervisors decides to postpone decision to give Amherst County employees a pay increase

AMHERST, Va. – Employees in Amherst County will not get a pay raise after the Board of Supervisors decided to postpone the decision.

While authorities have been discussing salary studies that compare occupations to those in other areas, Amherst County Administrator Dean Rodgers has pointed out that many roles were not included in the study, making it impossible for them to determine whether or not their workers’ salaries are below market average.

Rodgers said that the proposal would have been implemented beginning in January of 2023.

Now, they must wait until next year for a decision.

“We’ll still propose [the pay increases] in the next budget. We need to fix salaries. Now they’re falling further behind. So, the numbers that we presented [last week] won’t be the numbers we present in July. They’ll probably be higher in July now,” Rodgers said.

Those who had just earned a raise in pay, such as sheriff’s deputies and dispatchers, would not have received an additional raise.
