Two men hospitalized after a scuffle turned into a shooting in Northwest Roanoke

According to a statement released by the Roanoke Police Department, a scuffle in Northwest Roanoke turned into a shooting on March 21, leaving two men hospitalized.

Officers received a report around 12:05 p.m. on March 21, regarding a gunshot wound victim in the vicinity of 11th Street and Orange Avenue NW.

Upon arriving at the scene, the officers discovered a man lying in the roadway with severe injuries consistent with an assault.

Moments later, another call came in, stating that a person had been shot in the 1200 block of Grayson Avenue NW. Responding officers located a second man, who appeared to have suffered a minor gunshot wound.

Both men were rushed to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital by Roanoke Fire-EMS for treatment. According to RPD, their initial investigation revealed that the two men were engaged in a fight on 11th Street, and during the struggle, one of them discharged a firearm, wounding the other. Subsequently, the injured man drove himself to Grayson Avenue NW.

RPD has identified both men, but they have not released their names. One of the men is facing charges, and warrants will be served once he is released from the hospital.

It is unclear whether the other man will face charges in connection with the incident. According to Roanoke police, the investigation is still ongoing.
