Massive post-holiday traffic expected following Fourth of July celebrations

Roanoke, Virginia – As the celebrations for the Fourth of July come to an end, the masses will start to return from their holiday excursions over the coming week.

AAA has projected that nearly 51 million Americans have traveled during this Fourth of July period. A whopping 90% of these travelers took to the roads, leading experts to predict high volumes of traffic from Wednesday through to Friday.

In Virginia alone, AAA forecasted that 1.3 million residents would embark on holiday journeys, with coastal regions and lakeside areas being particularly popular destinations. Given the mid-week placement of the holiday, the return of these travelers is anticipated to be staggered across the ensuing days.

For those planning their travel on Wednesday, expert advice suggests hitting the road either prior to 11 a.m. or post 6 p.m. to evade the peak traffic hours. Amid the eagerness to return home from the holiday, it is crucial to maintain safe driving practices – refrain from distractions, always buckle up, and exercise patience.

This year’s travel predictions are slated to be the second highest in the history of the state, closely following the travel statistics of 2021.

Air travel has also witnessed record-breaking numbers this week. Irrespective of your mode of return, patience and flexibility will prove to be invaluable.
