Lynchburg Sheriff’s Office warns residents about an ongoing telephone scam

LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Lynchburg Sheriff’s Office appealed to the public, warning them about an ongoing telephone scam in the area.

Criminals are making phone calls to local individuals, claiming to be a person named Captain Mark Lacy, and informing anyone who answers the call that they have missed jury duty or have a warrant out for their arrest.

They will then demand that you purchase a gift card in order to pay your way out of prison.

These fraudsters are using a local number when contacting residents.

If you get a call of this kind, hang up immediately and report it to the police.
