New mural in progress in downtown Roanoke

Roanoke, Virginia – The Star City, also known as Roanoke, is celebrating its connection with the majestic Blue Ridge Mountains in a novel way – a mural, which is currently being created in the city’s downtown.

The artistic display honors the natural beauty of the area, featuring McAfee Knob, a highly recognized and often photographed part of the Appalachian Trail.

The canvas for this creative endeavor is the Freedom First Credit Union building, located on Williamson Road. James Bullough, an artist hailing from Germany, was chosen to bring the concept to life.

The mural’s motif is anchored in the idea of “Keep climbing to success,” as expressed by Roanoke Outside.

However, Bullough mentioned that the artwork invites various interpretations and he is open to hearing different perspectives on it. “It’s always very interesting, who picks out what, and what interpretation other people have. We’re always interested to hear that. If you want to come by and talk to us about it, please do,” he said.

The completion of the mural is expected within the next few days.
