False bomb-threat prompted evacuations at Alleghany High School

ALLEGHANY COUNTY, Va. – At around 2:20 p.m. on Wednesday, Alleghany High School students resumed classes after a shelter-in-place due to a bomb threat, according to Alleghany Highlands Public Schools.

A bomb threat was reported to the school administrators around 1:10 p.m., which resulted in the evacuation of the school. According to the school district, the shelter-in-place protocol was applied at all of the other school buildings as a precaution. After determining that there was not a bomb on the premises, law enforcement officials gave the all-clear for students to return to AHS.

According to the Alleghany County Sheriff’s Office, the threat was sent using the file-sharing tool Airdrop, which is provided by Apple.

Dismissal and after-school activities were to proceed as scheduled, with no interruptions to student transportation.

The threat is still being investigated at this time.
